Where is Fire & Sword (Hotel St. Michael)?
It is downstairs in Hotel St. Michael at the corner of Gurley and Montezuma, at the north end of Whiskey Row and across from the Courthouse Plaza. The bar's page also lists the 100 S Montezuma St side of the building.
What usually happens at Fire & Sword (Hotel St. Michael)?
- Thursday through Saturday bring live music. The hotel posts the lineup on its events calendar at stmichaelhotel.com/events.
- Happy hour starts at 4 PM. It runs 4 to 6 PM, and the kitchen serves bar food like wings, a smashburger and fish and chips from 4 to 9 PM.
- Weekend daytime is brunch-adjacent. Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 PM bring a house Bloody Mary and mimosas.
- Whiskey flights are the point. The cocktail list adds house drinks like Aces High, The Honest Opinion and St. Mike's Old Fashioned.
A little history
The corner started in 1868 as the Diana Saloon and became the Hotel Burke in 1891; after the Great Fire of 1900, the hotel was rebuilt in 1901. When Arizona went dry in 1915, the bar says, the hotel ran a soda shop upstairs with an unmarked staircase down to a hidden bar.
Insider tip
Friday and Saturday it stays open until midnight, and Saturday doors open at 2 PM, so a slow afternoon flight before the Row gets loud is very doable.
